Students build their math knowledge with confidence. Second graders master advanced addition and subtraction along with basic multiplication skills.

They continue to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them through units in social studies and science.

Children are introduced to AlphaSmart ­ a personal word processor ­ in the second grade. With AlphaSmart, they begin to learn keyboarding and computer skills.

We enrich the second grade core curriculum with art, music, computers, chapel, physical education and Spanish.

Second grade highlights include Around the World Celebration, Ancestor Reports, Natural History Museum, Charlotte’s Web Unit, Pajama Read-in and Pumpkin Globes.
 

Strong literacy and mathematics curriculum in kindergarten and first grade provide an excellent foundation for second grade. It is a time when children develop more complex comprehension skills.

In language arts, students work on oral and silent reading fluency. We focus on writing in the second grade curriculum, teaching students to create cohesive paragraphs communicating their own ideas, observations, and opinions about literature.
